What is an Ophthalmologist?
An ophthalmologist is a registered medical practicioner who has completed a minimum of four years of specialised medical and refractive training and experience in eye care.
Ophthalmologists specialise in the medical care of the eyes and visual system and on the prevention of eye diseases and injury and deliver total eye care; (vision services, contact lenses, eye examinations, medical eye care incl laser treatments and minor lid procedures).
What is an Ophthalmic Surgeon?
An ophthalmic surgeon is a registered medical practitioner who has completed a minimum of seven years competency based specialised training in ophthalmic surgery. An ophthalmic surgeon is registered with the Medical Council of Ireland to provide surgical services for both general and sub specialty ophthalmic surgical procedures.
