ICO Annual Conference 2026 - Ophthalmology Medical Workforce Report

Pictured at the launch of HSE NDTP Ophthalmology Medical Workforce in Ireland 2025-2040 Report which took place on Friday, 15th May at the Irish College of Ophthalmologists Annual Conference were: Ms Aoife Doyle, National Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology, Mr Gerry Fahy, ICO President and Professor Anthony O'Regan, Medical Director of the HSE National Doctors Training and Planning (NDTP). The report outlines that demand for ophthalmology services will continue to rise sharply over the coming years due to population growth, ageing demographics and increasing rates of chronic eye disease including cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration. It sets out a clear roadmap reflecting the need to grow our consultant workforce and continue building integrated community services so patients can access timely treatment in the right setting.
