OPHTHALMOLOGIST

South Canterbury District Health Board & Timaru Eye Clinic, New Zealand

This rather unique position combines public and private sectors in an innovative single service premises. You will appreciate an independent style of practice and be free to develop your interests and skills. You’ll also be encouraged to proceed to full partnership in the Clinic.

You will work with a full complement of contemporary equipment including a new Zeiss multi spot laser, a new Zeiss fundus camera and Cirrhus OCT, Yag laser, autorefractors, ultrasound equipment, new Lenstar Biometer and and a well equipped minor operating theatre.

The Clinic utilises the ‘Houston’ information system from the NZ software Corporation which is widely used throughout Australasia and was developed in this clinic.

If necessary you will be eligible, under the supervision of our Ophthalmologist, to achieve the required Vocational Scope of Practice through the Medical Council of New Zealand after a one year Provisional Vocational Scope of Practice period.

 Timaru and South Canterbury offer a delightful and safe environment.

Excellent schools, great public amenities and sporting facilities plus easy access to numerous attractions like fly fishing rivers, lakes, mountains and ski fields (most within two hours drive of Timaru) make for a lifestyle second to none.

Timaru has been little affected by the recent Canterbury earthquakes.

The present Ophthalmologist will continue a supporting role, but will be happy to allow the successful applicant a major share in the clinic work and matching remuneration, and a new three year contract with the South Canterbury DHB.

There is an opportunity to acquire ownership of the clinic for the successful applicant.
