Queens University, Belfast

The understanding of the molecular basis of ophthalmic disorders has advanced significantly over the past 10 years with two gene therapy trials currently enrolling for early onset Retinitis Pigmentosa. This conference will provide an update on the novel and challenging topic of genetic interpretation of ophthalmic disorders, focusing on four areas of interest:

Inherited retinal dystrophies
Hereditary optic neuropathies
Age-related macular degeneration
Childhood dystrophies

Discussions will relate to the clinical assessment, genetic investigation and future therapeutic options in these disorders and draws upon speakers from both clinical and laboratory backgrounds. We will conclude with a Keynote lecture to be delivered by Mr Colin Willoughby on the genetic basis of corneal disorders.
