A New Vision for Medical Ophthalmology in Ireland
In this episode of Eyes on Tomorrow, ophthalmologist John Ferris and optometrist, Dermot Keogh are joined by Ms Aoife Doyle, National Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology and Consultant Medical Ophthalmologists, Dr Geraldine Comer, Dr Emer Henry and Dr Bobby Tang, to discuss the rapidly evolving specialty of Medical Ophthalmology and the development of Integrated Eye Care Teams across Ireland.
Led by Consultant Medical Ophthalmologists, these multi-disciplinary teams bring together optometrists, orthoptists, ophthalmic nurses and technicians to deliver cataract, glaucoma, medical retina and paediatric eye care in the community closer to patients' homes.
They discuss how Medical Ophthalmology has developed into an exciting career pathway for Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist's combining community eye care with specialist hospital clinics.
